starting over

Just a quick update tonight; late this afternoon Victoria had her port removed. It had been determined that the type of staph infection she had was likely to hang around the foreign object. Despite being on two types of IV antibiotic, her fever was still high and the bacteria was still showing up in her blood. The hardest part about today was that she was not scheduled for surgery but was listed as needing to be done today. This meant if there were cancellations she would be priority. Because we didn't have a clue what time it would be at, she wasn't allowed to eat or drink starting at midnight last night. Her surgery ended up being at 4 pm :(
It all went well. She now has an IV in one hand. Once the infection clears they will be inserting another port. It's like we are starting over in that department. Her appetite is back already though so that's a good sign. I'm attempting to return to work this week so we'll see how that goes.
